      Om eens flink indruk te maken (vlagvertoon)  op de wereld en op onze vijand Indonesië, stuurde de Nederlandse regering in 1960 de Karel Doorman op wereldreis  ... oa.  naar Nieuw Guinea.  Een vliegdekschip van allure.

      Ontvangst in Hollandia , NNG op 2 augustus.  
      Een maand lang oefent de marine rond  NNG en vertrekt op 2 sep richting Japan

      Op 20 december een muzikaal onthaald door de Marinierskapel bij Hoek van Holland. Hierna een geweldig mooie aankomst in Rotterdam, eindelijk weer thuis. Het einde van de “wereldreis 1960”. De vliegtuigsquadrons bleven aan boord ten gevolge van de dichte mist. Later ging de Doorman naar de werf van Wilton Fijenoord te Schiedam voor onderhoud tot 10 april 1961.
