t: 17px; text-align: justify;">Lawrence (Larry) Van ElzeLingen, age 84, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at a local care facility. He was born to Bastiaan and Neeltje (Westerhout) Van ElzeLingen on May 18, 1926 in Werkendam, the Netherlands. He worked for the City of Rotterdam as a Toolmaker and took several correspondence courses for design engineering. He was drafted into the Dutch Marines in November 1946 and served in Indonesia as an ordnance repair specialist until 1949. He married Gerry Hoogenboom on May 19, 1954 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and two weeks later, came to the United States, settling in Muskegon Heights and later moving to Grand Haven. In 1955, he started working at Gardner & Denver. He served a term as President of the Gardner & Denver Credit Union, which is now Lake Trust Credit Union and retired from Gardner & Denver after 25 years of employment. For many years, Larry did volunteer work at International Aid and assisted as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop #5012. Larry was an active member of Trinity Reformed Church. He enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards and was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather with a positive, never-give-up attitude. He also loved traveling to Brooksville, Florida for the past 21 years during the winter months. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gerry; daughter, Cyndi (Al) Zimmerman of Grand Haven; son, James (Pat) Van ElzeLingen of Wyoming, MI; four grandchildren: Steven and Kassandra Zimmerman & Jordan and Sarah Van ElzeLingen; two great-grandchildren: Jocelyn Zimmerman and Mason Byron; sister, Corry Snel of Livermore, CA; brother-in-law, Jan Hoogenboom of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, as well as a niece and a great-nephew of Livermore, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Thomas; sister-in-law, Henny Van ElzeLingen and brother-in-law, Richard Snel. The funeral service for Larry will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Trinity Reformed Church with Pastor Randy Bremmer officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 4th from 2—4 and 6—8 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity reformed Church or Love INC.
