Pieter de Bruin werd op 2 oktober 1878 erkend door zijn ouders (bij hunhuwelijk) Piet de Bruin was niet aanwezig op het stadhuis bij de voltrekking van het huwelijk van zijn zoon Matthijs, hij had een akte ondertekend waarin hij toestemming gaf voor het huwelijk van zijn minderjarige zoon.

Heden vijftien Mei negentienhonderd vijf en dertig, verscheen voor mij, Ambtenaar van den burgerlijken stand der gemeente Dordrecht: van Zuilichem, Bernardus Hubertus oud vierenveertig jaren, aanspreker wonende te Dordrecht die verklaarde, dat op veertien Mei des na middags ten negen ure, in deze gemeente is overleden de Bruin Pieter oud zeven en vijftig jaren, geboren te Rotterdam zonder beroep wonende te Dordrecht echtgenoote van: van Leen, F Johannes en van Lobe, Geertruida Wilhelmina, beiden overleden.
