Lenie is 24 jaar en actief als koerierster in een verzetsgroep, samen met meerdere leden uit het gezin. Haar codenaam luidt Lize. Waarschijnlijk is er al enige tijd op haar gelet: als de familie Dicke op een avondgezamenlijk aan tafel zit, doet de Duitse bezetter op 3 januari een inval in het ouderlijk huis van Lenie aan de Prinsenstraat.

Ze moet mee naar het hoofdkantoor. Daar wordt ze met veel geweld verhoord, geslagen en uiteindelijk opgesloten in het huis van bewaring aan deDoelstraat. De uitputting en het geweld worden Lenie dan bijna teveel.Er staat veel op het spel voor het hele ondergrondse netwerk. Ze maakthaar wanhoop kenbaar in een briefje, wat door ‘goede’ cipiers bij de ondergrondse terechtkomt. De verzetsgroep laat haar middels een bericht terug weten: “Houdt moed! Zo nodig grijpen we in.”

En dat gebeurt in de nacht van 7 op 8 januari. Met een valstrik weten de verzetsstrijders de bewakers te passeren en dringen ze het zwaarbewaakte huis van bewaring binnen. Zo bevrijden ze Lenie van de vrouwenafdeling uit de gevangenis aan de Doelstraat. Ze vlucht op een fiets terwijlhet sneeuwt. De verzetsgroep maakt nepsporen in de sneeuw; anders zou alsnog te achterhalen zijn waar ze heen rijdt.

Tijdens deze bevrijding vallen er slachtoffers aan Duitse kant. De Duitsers zinnen op wraak en nog dezelfde week volgt er een vergeldingsactie. Het huis van de familie Dicke, op de kop van de Prinsenstraat aan de voet van de Grote Kerk, wordt in brand gestoken. Er blijft niet veel meer van het pand over. Ook de Dordtse bevolking wordt collectief gestraft en mag na 18.00 uur niet meer naar buiten.
