Jeugd
Jan Andriessen werd als Johannes Leonardus Wilhelmus Ververs op 31 juli1925 in Arnhem geboren als zoon van Petronella Arnoldina Ververs.
Petronella Ververs was afkomstig uit Duitsland en zwanger geraakt van een getrouwde man. Deze “kocht haar af” en zij ging toen naar Arnhem waar ze introk bij haar twee zussen.
Op 15 februari 1928 trouwde Petronella Ververs met Hendrikus Andriessenen bij dit huwelijk erkenden beide echtgenoten Johannes Ververs als hun kind. Johannes Ververs werd zo Johannes Andriessen.

1940 Overlijden Stiefvader
In 1940 Johannes Andriessen was toen 15 jaar oud, overleed zijn stiefvader op 36 jarige leeftijd aan geelzucht.
Zijn moeder zou daarop niet meer goed voor haar zoon hebben kunnen zorgen, waarop enige tijd later een tante hem naar zijn grootouders in Duitsland bracht.

1942 “Seyffardlegioen”
In 1942, toen 17 jaar oud, de minimum leeftijd voor vrijwilligers, zou Johannes Andriessen in Arnhem dienst genomen hebben in het “Seyffardlegioen”.

In de familie geschiedenis is overlevert dat zijn moeder na de oorlog werd bestraft omdat zij hiervoor toestemming had gegeven. Mogelijk moesten de ouders van minderjarigen hun toestemming geven om dienst te kunnen nemen.

Met het “Seyffardlegioen” wordt zeer waarschijnlijk het Vrijwilligerslegioen Nederland bedoeld.
Van dit Vrijwilligerslegioen was H.A. Seyffardt Luitenant-Generaal b.d.het boegbeeld.
Hij deed vele oproepen voor Nederlandse vrijwilligers om na de Duitse inval in de Sovjet-Unie mee te strijden tegen het bolsjewisme.
Pas eind 1943 zou het 48. SS Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Regiment daadwerkelijk de naam General ‘Seyffardt’ dragen.
