Dat Thomas voor 5 halve hoofden ipv hele hoofden, wordt aangeslagen betekent dat hij ernstige tegenslag had. Of redelijk arm was; met een vermogen onder de 600 cg betaalde je halfgeld voor hoofden en schoorstenen. Een besmettelijke veeziekte is niet waarschijnlijk als je 25 koeien hebt. Bij de dijkdoorbraak van 1825 heeft de hele Sensmeer onder water gestaan.
Maar hij was een grote boer, en moest toch nog 60 caroligulden en 2 stuivers belasting betalen in 1793.
Symensma Thomas Symens Hij wordt genoemd in een document als persoon die 200 gulden of meer belasting moeten betalen in het jaar 1819.

Er is een boek over de parochie blauwhuis (ijdema & Oldenhof). Daarin staat dat thomas administrateur was van de kerk te Sensmeer.
Hij droeg op 1 okt 1828, vlak voor zijn dood, de administratie over aan zijn zwager Rients jarigs rijpma en rein sjoerds minnema.
