    Mrs. Sam Altena Dies At Orange City Hospital

    Mrs. Sam Altena Sr. passed away at he Doornink hospital at Orange City on Easter Sunday morning, April; 1, 1945 at the age of 75 years.

    Mrs. Altena, born Julia Roghair, was born on July 2, 1869 at Maurice, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Mr. Sam Altena who now survives her with the following children: Gerrit Altena, Mrs. Gerrit Int Velt, Orange City; Henry Altena of Doon; Mrs. Albert Int Velt of Harris, lowa; Mrs. Art Klein of Orange City; Sam Altena, Jake Altena and Mrs. Tony De Boom all of Maurice. Also 45 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by three children Henry Paul who died in infancy and Dick and Louise who died in a car-train accident on the night of Jan, 3, 1928.

    The Altena family have been living in this vicinity all of their life, living first on a farm west of town and then retiring, having lived in town, for a number of years.

    Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, April 4 at one o'clock at the home and at 1 30 at the Second Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Oliver Breen officiating. Burial took place at the local cemetery and six of her grandsons were the pallbearers: David Altena, Clarence Klein, John Bruxvoort, Martin IntVelt, Senard Altena and Sentner Altena.
