Op diverse internetsites wordt aangegeven dat Karst Jans ten tijde van zijn huwelijk zijn naam zou hebben gewijzigd van 'Holman' naar 'Hut'.
Echter geen bewijs gevonden van een evt naamswijziging. Op zowel huwelijksakte als huwelijksbijlagen is geen verwijzing te vinden naar een naamswijziging. De vader van Karst Jans Hut wordt op zowel huwelijksakte van zijn zoon als op zijn overlijdensakte Jan Karstens Hut genoemd.
De akten van het naamgevingsregister zijn niet bewaard gebleven.
Meest waarschijnlijk lijkt dat verwarring is ontstaan met Jan Karstens Holman, geboren in 1768 te Leek. Abusievelijk lijkt op de eerder genoemde internetsites te zijn aangenomen dat deze de vader is van Karst Jans Hut.
