Notes about Arnoldus Ferné

Arnoldus Verné was schoolmeester te Maasdam en had diverse bijbaantje, zo ontving hij omstreeks 1780 een tractement als koster, voorlezer en voorzanger. Verder werd hij geregeld betaald voor het opwinden en onderhoud van het torenuurwerk.
Arnoldus Verné zocht het later in de politiek, in 1791 werd hij tot collecteur van de gemeentemiddelen benoemd en in 1798 tot municipaal, de Franse term voor gemeenteraadslid. Arnold bleek van prinsgezind tot patriot bekeerd te zijn: zo ondertekende hij een verklaring van "afkeer van het stadhouderlijk bewind", dit terwijl hij een paar jaar eerder nog de eed op het stadhouderschap had bekrachtigd.
