Notes about Cornelis de VOS

In 1655 vertrok de Zeeuw Josse van Robais met 50 werklieden en een flink aantal weefgetouwen naar Abbeville in Frankrijk om er een koninklijke weverij te beginnen. Tot aan de Franse Revolutie was de familie Robais de rijkste van heel de streek. Het huis dat ze in de 18de eeuw voor hun gasten bouwden (en later voor zichzelf uitbreidden), staat er nog steeds: er woont nu opnieuw een Nederlandse in (met haar Franse echtgenoot), maar die heeft niets met de textielfamilie te maken.

Cornelis de Vos is waarschijnlijk werkzaam geweest op de textiel fabriek van Josse Robais. Cornelis was getrouwd met Catharina van der Elst die stamt uit een familie van wevers.
