Onder de titel "Geleerde Mannen" schrijft Matthijs van Balen: "Mr Jacob van den Eyk Hendriksz, secretaris des Hofs en Hoge Vierschare van Zuyd Holland, was een groot onderzoeker der Oudheyd. Heeft geschreven en uitgegeven de Beschryvinge van Zuyd Holland, gedrukt tot Dordrecht 1628. Sterft omtrent ten midden van Wijnmaand 1634".
Jacob's boek "Korte Beschrijvinhe mitsgaders handvesten, privilegien, costumen ende ordonnantien van den Lande van Zuyt-Holland" werd 1628 uitgegeven bij Nicolaes Vincentsz van Spieringcxhouck, boekdrukker te Dordrecht. Het is in verschillende Nederlandse universiteitsbibliotheken en in de British Library in Londen opgenomen.
