Notes about Maria Aaltje van der LINDEN

Mrs. Arie DeVries died at her late residents in Hospers June 7th of Paralysis, aged 67 years. She was born at Pella, Iowa and married Mr. DeVries there in 1871. Fifteen children were born to t hem and six survive. T hey are John of Newkirk, Fred of Hospers, Cornelius of Carnes, Mrs. G.W. Grootenhuis of Hospers. Mrs. A. Tangerman of Nebraska, Mrs. Frank DeKok of Hospers. Two sisters are Mrs. A.J. Betten of Orange City and Mrs. Dystra of Pella. Mrs. DeVries was a woman of splendid character, very loyal to church and country.

When Gov. Hardings proclamation was published she at once gave up reading the scriptures except in English, saying with her son, we will be law abiding citizens. The funeral services was preached by Rev. Fuicuper in English at the Presbyterian Church on June 10 and interment was made in the Hospers Cemetery.
