Laurens Laurense de Boeff wonende tot Driel heeft verkocht en overgrdagen 30 hont lants geheten "den heijkamp" te Delwijnen aan Willem Willemse enz.

De Boevé is oorspronkelijk nederlandsch, gelijk de oe, in plaats van de
franse ou, nog aanduidt. Het is eenvoudig De Boeve, een geslachtsnaam
die ook als Den Bouf en Boef voorkomt. Dat iemand niet geerne Boef heet
en dus pogingen aanwendt om die lelijke naam te verbloemen, kan ik mij
voorstellen. Intussen, de hedendaagse slechte betekenis van dit woord
ligt geenszins in de geslachtsnamen De Boeve, Den Bouf en Boef
opgesloten. Dit woord had oudtijds een andere gunstigere beduidenis.

Een andere verklaring is dat Boef of Boeff een verkorte vorm is voor Boorver of Borever, en dát is gebleken weer een verkorte vorm te zijn van Bodegraver, oftewel heel simpel: "van Bodegraven".
