Hendrik had waarschijnlijk in 1940 geen werk en leefde van een uitkering. Die uitkering kon in 1940 alleen behouden blijven wanneer je je aanmeldde voor de "Arbeitseinsatz".
Hendrik vertrok 18 dec 1940 op vrijwillige basis naar Augsburg (Duitsland). Na de huwelijksvoltrekking vertrok ook zijn vrouw Riek (Hendrika) naar Augsburg.
