Zijn vader en grootvader handelden ook in manufacturen. Hij had een winkel in Volendam. In de Prinsenstraat, waar nu een groentenzaak is (1983) later tweede winkel. Er zat eerst een winkel van Scheepers in, maar die ging over de kop. Een van de oprichters van het Fanfare-(later Harmonie)gezelschap "Nut en Genoegen". De anderen waren
de heren C. Visser en P. Worp.
