Notes about Samuël EVERWIJN

EVERWIJN (Samuel), geboren te Dordrecht 7 Augustus 1631, gestorven aldaar 23 Februari 1694. Hij studeerde in de rechten, en werd door zijn huwelijk met Cornelia de Roovere (gestorven 12 October 1727), dochter van Mr. Pieter de Roovere en Sophia de Beveren, in den kring der dordtsche regenten opgenomen. Hij bekleedde achteenvolgens de voornaamste regeeringsbetrekkingen als veertig 1662, oudraad en schepen 1662, 1667-68, burgemeester 1675-76, 1686-87, 1692, gecommitteerde wegens Dordrecht ter Staten van Holland 1688. In 1672 onderteekende hij mede de herroeping van het Eeuwig Edict en had in 1684 aandeel in de oneenigheden met prins Willem III over de onregelmatighed en bij de nominatie der Goede Lieden van Achten voorgevallen. Hij had twaalf kinderen, waaronder vier zonen, n.l.: Samuel, Pieter, Diederik en Pompejus, welke beide laatsten ongehuwd resp. 12 September 1734 en 16 Januari 1747 overleden.

Zijn geschilderd portret berust bij de familie van Repelaer van Driel.
