Jacob was 29 juni 1944 op weg met de tram naar Volendam toen de tram werd beschoten door een Amerikaanse Jager (vliegtuig) Bij deze beschieting vielen 4 doden en 9 gewonden. Jacob was één van de gewonden. De gewonden werden overgebracht naar het Purmerends ziekenhuis. Jacob was meerdere keren aan zijn benen geraakt en heeft daarna hier altijd last van gehouden bij het lopen. (zie krantenartikel uit de krant Provinciale Noord Hollandsche Courant van 1 juli 1944 pag 2 zaterdag editie)

Jacob werd gekozen als bestuurslid van een afdeling in Monnickendam van de vakbond Fabrieks,- haven en transportarbeiders op 2 maart 1920 zie krantenartikel Purmerender Courant.
