Notes about Pieter LOTSY

De opvolger van de overleden burgemeester Van Oordt wordt de 27-jarige Pieter Lotsy uit Dordrecht. Hij wordt op 9 november 1903 benoemd en op 10 december geïnstalleerd.
Zijn benoeming tot burgemeester zal er zeker toe hebben bijgedragen dat Pieter besluit nog in hetzelfde jaar in het huwelijk te treden met de 22-jarige Grada Lebret. Hiervoor heeft Piet drie weken verlof gehad, dat eindigde op 13 januari.
Het pasgetrouwde burgemeesterspaar vestigt zich in het herenhuis Rijn-Rust aan het Veerpad, waar ook hun drie kinderen worden geboren: Grada in 1905, Maria Cornelia in 1906 en Pieter in 1907.
Als we de foto's van Welgelegen in het begin van de 20e eeuw bekijken, zien we inderdaad een riante villa, gelegen aan de Rijn en op een behoorlijke afstand van de kom van het dorp. We dienen echter wel te bedenken dat van enig modern comfort nog geen sprake was. Als Lotsy de villa betrekt, is er nog geen waterleiding, geen gas, geen elektriciteit en geen centrale verwarming.
Wel is de burgemeester de eerste burger van het dorp die in 1911 aangesloten wordt op het telefoonnet, maar aan het woongenot van het burgemeestersgezin zal dat niet veel hebben bijgedragen.
De burgemeester ging blijkbaar graag met de moderne tijd mee, getuige het feit dat hij in 1920 al een heuse stoomfiets bezat.
Om gezondheidsredenen moest burgemeester Lotsy op 21 november 1938 ontslag nemen. Hij verhuisde naar Hilversum, waar hij nog geen jaar later, op 5 juli 1939 is overleden.
