Notes about Cornelis FANNIUS

FANNIUS (Mr. Cornelis), geb. te Brouwershaven 9 Juni 1625; gest. te den Haag (?) 3 Nov. 1675, begraven te Hillegom, zoon van Pieter Fannius, secretaris van Brouwershaven, en Cornelia van Beaumont. Studeerde in de rechten te Leiden (Album Stud. Acad. Lugd. Bat. op 20 Aug. 1640). Waarschijnlijk vestigde hij zich daarna als advocaat in den Haag. Werd 5 Maart 1656 pensionaris van den Briel en 27 Febr. 1660 lid van het Hof van Holland. Van moederszijde was hij verwant aan en door zijne vrouw werd hij een volle neef van de Witt, die in 1660 zijne benoeming tot raadsheer begunstigde en er in 1670 tevergeefs voor ijverde, om hem tot president van het Hof te doen benoemen. In het proces van Buat (deel I, kol. 508) ijverde hij zeer voor een veroordeeling van den beschuldigde (Fruin, Verspr. Geschr., IV, 280 vlg.). In dat van Cornelis de Witt schijnt hij zich wegens de verwantschap geëxcuseerd te hebben (van Wijn, Bijv. en Aanm. op Wag., XIV, 84; de mededeeling van Wicquefort, Histoire des Prov. Unies, IV, 516, schijnt onjuist). Bij dat van Jacob van der Graeff wilde hij zich excuseeren (Notulen Hop en Vivien, uitg. Japikse, 26). In 1672 en 1674 fungeerde hij als commissaris-politiek op de synode van Noord-Holland (Alsvoren, 276, 434-438). 27 Juni 1669 werd hij verleid met de heerlijkheid Oud-Haarlem en Cortenbosch. Hij huwde 10 Febr. 1655 Catharina van Sypesteyn (later hertrouwd met Gerard Bicker van Swieten) en had een zoon Pieter, geb. 1658.
