Hij was naast fotograaf ook hoofd van de fotografische dienst van Boelwerf en oprichter van de Foto- en diakring van Boelwerf die ondermeer fotowedstrijden organiseerde.
Hij laat ons ontelbare prachtige foto’s na, waarvan een aantal opgenomen zijn in het fotoboek ‘Boelwerf in beeld’ waaraan hij nog actief meewerkte enkele jaren geleden. Vorig jaar besteedden we aandacht aan dit werk op de erfgoeddag en had Eddy Allcock een gesprek met Alex over de vaak halsbrekende toeren die hij als fotograaf moest uithalen om toch maar die éne foto te kunnen maken.
Alex digitaliseerde ook foto’s voor het archief van Temse tot op zeer hoge leeftijd. Toen wij een aantal foto’s terugvonden op glasplaat in het archief was het Alex die ze digitaliseert voor Op Stoapel met prachtig resultaat. Alex werkte ook actief mee aan onze eerste grote tentoonstelling in 2009 en exposeerde er zijn beste werken. Een aantal foto’s van zijn hand zijn ook permanent te zien in het Administratief centrum van de gemeente Temse.
Alex was niet alleen een vakman maar ook een artiest. Zijn erfenis is van onschatbare waarde voor iedereen die met het verleden van de scheepsbouw begaan is maar ook voor de fotografie in het algemeen. Elk beeld is een pareltje. Wij zijn erg dankbaar dat hij met Op Stoapel wilde meewerken in de voorbije jaren. Hij heeft hierdoor een actieve bijdrage geleverd aan het in stand houden van de Boelwerf erfenis. Bedankt Alex!
