Notes about James Stewart

James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray, was the illegitimate half-brother and chief adviser of Mary, Queen of Scots. Member of the House of Stewart as the illegitimate son of King James V, was Regent of Scotland for his half-nephew, the infant King James VI, from 1567 until his assassination.
On January 23, 1570 the first recorded assassination by a firearm took place. The victim was James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray – the Regent for the infant James VI of Scotland. He was assassinated by gunshot by James Hamilton of Bothwellhaugh, a supporter of Mary, Queen of Scots.
