In 1736 naar Holland gezonden. Schreef zich op 12 september 1739 in als student rechtsgeleerdheid aan de Academie van Groningen. Na enige jaren werd hij kapitein van een compagnie te voet. Later bracht hij het tot burgemeester van Appingedam.
