Notes about Geelje Broeksema

Geelje was een zeer behulpzame, meelevende lieve vrouw (en dat waren haar dochters

Martje en Eltje ook). Ze had een winkeltje; verkocht ook drank (waar ze ook van hield).

Het gehele gezin werkte hard

Helaas moest Geelje Broeksema, de hardrijdster, later beide benen missen. Afsterving door vaatvernauwing, wellicht ook suikerziekte?

Ik heb haar eenmaal ontmoet, toen ze al een been miste. En ondanks dat ze kort tevoren haar man had verloren, was ze een klein, dapper vrouwtje.

Haar man Gerad bezocht haar direct na de operatie in Groningen. Ze was nog niet helemaal bij kennis. Hij was zo ontdaan. Toen hij thuiskwam 's avonds kreeg hij een attaque en overleed. Dat vond ze heel erg, dat ze hem niet bewust meer had gezien. In haar huisje (vol met prachtig antiek koper) probeerde ze zich te behelpen, geholpen door een jong hulpje, die van top tot teen in het zwart was gestoken! Het deerntje bekeek verbijsterd de stadse "wichters" die vanuit Groningen kwamen aanfietsen en toen ook oma Eltje van Dijken (met dochter Geeke) bezochten.
