Notes about Wigbold van der DOES

DOES (Wigbold van der) (1), geb. te 's Gravenhage 1 Aug. 1611, overl. 11 Aug. 1669; zoon van Steven (1) (kol. 439) en van Anna van Ewsum.

Heer van Noordwijk, Offem etc., werd hij in 1642 beschreven in de ridderschap van Holland, was in 1660 kolonel en daarna gouverneur van Sluis. In 1666 werd aan hem en andere staatslieden de zorg voor de opvoeding van prins Willem III opgedragen. In 1667 werd hij hoogheemraad van Rijnland. Den 17en Januari 1668 werd hij, na het overlijden van Willem Frederik graaf van Nassau, aangesteld tot generaal der artillerie. Hij kocht 14 Dec. 1660 van Arent van Wassenaer en Anna Maria van Scherpenzeel de heerlijkheid Offem voor ƒ 63000, te betalen in drie termijnen met daarenboven een vereering van ƒ 1000.

Hij huwde in de Gr. K. te 's Gravenhage 22 April 1640 met Anna van den Kerckhove, geb. 7 Nov. 1620, overl. 27 Maart 1697, dochter van Jan Polyander, heer van Heenvliet, houtvester van Holland, en van Anna van Wesicke. Uit dit huwelijk 4 dochters en 3 zoons o.a. Steven (2) (kol. 439); Anna, in 1666 geh. met Philips de Zoete de Laeke, heer van Villers; en Josina, in 1668 geh. met Willem baron van Wassenaer, heer van Ruyven, grootzegelbewaarder en stadhouder van de leenen.

Zijn geschilderd portret door een onbekend kunstenaar is in het stadhuis te Hoorn.
