Jakob de Witt, Fransz, (Tweeden Zoon van Frans de Witt, Heeren Kornelisz en Liduwi van Bevere, Heeren Pieters dochter,)
WITT (Jacob de) (1), geb. 3 Jan. 1548 te Dordrecht, gest. ald. 14 Dec. 1621; zoon van Frans de Witt (kol. 1453) en Liduwi van Beveren. Ofschoon minder op den voorgrond tredend dan zijn oudere broeder Cornelis (2) (kol. 1449), is hij ook een invloedrijk dordtsch regent geweest. Sedert 1590 komt hij herhaalde malen als schepen voor; van 1599-1602 was hij tresorier; in 1601 en 1602, 1615 en 1616, 1619 en 1629 burgemeester van 's heeren wegen; in 1604 en 1607 gecommitteerde ten beleide der stadszaken (i e. wethouder). De stad committeerde hem onderscheiden malen in de Staten van Holland en van 1607-1613 in de Gecommitteerde Raden. Hij huwde Elisabeth Heymans, eene zuster van de vrouw van zijn broeder Cornelis, en bewoonde het huis Cruyssenborg. Van zijne 8 kinderen noemen wij slechts één zoon: Frans, van wien alleen bekend is, dat hij gehuwd was met Margareta Rutgers en gestorven is 8 Nov. 1610. Eén hunner 5 kinderen, Jacob de Witt (gest. 1653), komt voor als gouverneur op de kust van Coromandel; hij was gehuwd met Susanna Wateringe van Schiedam. Deze tak is in de mannelijke lijn verder zonder belang.
