Jan Louis Willem De Geer was op allerlei terreinen aktief. In 1813 was hij lid geworden van de provisionele regering van de stad Utrecht. In 1814 werd hij benoemd tot secretaris van de 'commissie tot regeling van het hoger onderwijs' en vervolgens in 1815 tot commies van Staat, secretaris van de 'commissie tot het ontwerpen van de reglementen voor de militaire Willemsorde' en tot secretaris bij het departement van onderwijs, kunsten en wetenschappen. Deze laatste funktie vervulde Jan Louis Willem tot 1817, het jaar waarin hij benoemd werd tot griffier van de Tweede Kamer van de Staten-Generaal. Dit ambt bekleedde hij tot 1842 waarna hij griffier van de Eerste Kamer werd. In 1850 kreeg hij uit deze funktie eervol ontslag. Daarnaast is Jan Louis Willem de Geer aktief geweest in de 'commissie tot onderzoek van het statuut van de academische senaat van de universiteit van Luik' en in de 'commissie van advies over de inrichting van het hoger onderwijs'. Bij zijn ongehuwd overlijden in 1857 gingen de titel en de heerlijkheden het Over- en het Nedereind van Jutphaas over op de oudste zoon van zijn broer, Barthold Jacob Lintelo de Geer (1816- 1903).
