Jacob Elias Trip, geboren op de Warsumburg in 1687, overleden Mei 1719, zoon van Lous Trip en Christina Trip, liet zich 11 Juli 1714 inschrijven als student aan de hoogeschool te leiden en promoveerde aldaar 7 Augustus daar aan volgende tot jur. utr. doct. op een proefschrift ''Ad Sctum Vellejanum''. Hij was 1712 gehuwd met Anna Titia Nijsingh, geboren te Groningen, dochter van den Drentschen gedeputeerde Lucas Nijsingh. Hij was in 1715 als onderkoopman op reis naar Batavia. In 1717 was hij fiscaal te Sourata, residentie Madioen.

Jacob Elias Trip trad 16 november 1714 in dienst bij de VOC als Onderkoopman, met het zeilschip Amazone vertrokken zen naar de Kaap, waar ze 30 maart 1715 aankwamen.
21 april werd de reis voortgezet, zij kwamen 3 juli 1715 aan in Batavia. Trip keerde niet terug van deze reis, hij is in Azie overleden.
