Notes about François NANSIUS

NANS (François) (1), Nants, Nansius of Nantius, de jonge, geboren te Brugge, begraven te Middelburg 9 Jan. 1602, zoon van Franciscus Nansius den oude, kwam met zijne vrouw Marie Anchemant tegelijk met zijn vader uit Brugge te Middelburg, waar hij, gelogeerd op den Dam in den ouden Tol, in Juni 1584 attestatie inleverde. Spoedig vertrok de familie naar Leiden, waar François zich 17 Mei 1585 liet inschrijven als student medicijnen en 26 October 1588 promoveerde tot med. Dr. op Theses de Calculo Renum. Volgens opgave zou hij eenigen tijd te Dordrecht gepractiseerd hebben, doch reeds 25 Juli 1590 werd wederom te Middelburg zijn zoon Cornelis gedoopt, dus vóór de komst van zijn vader in 1591 te Dordrecht als rector van de Iatijnsche school. In 1593 werd hij te Middelburg aangesteld als stadsdokter, in welke functie hij Matthias de l'Obel, Tob. Roelsius, Daniel Miverius (II kol. 925), Adr. Pieters en Joh. Dirx tot ambtgenooten heeft gehad en nog in 1601 werd hij dokter van het gasthuis. Voor zijn zoon Adolf, bij wiens doop Adolf van Meetkerke getuige was. Ook was Nansius bevriend met Marnix van St. Aldegonde, die 21 Augustus 1594 getuige was bij den doop te Middelburg van Nantius zoon Philips; andere kinderen nog waren Magdalena (ged. 5 Mrt. 1597) en Lodewijk (28 Jan. 1601). Waarschijnlijk stierf hij in de kracht van zijn leven. Terwijl men opgeeft (Molhuysen, Gesch. der univ. bibl. te Leiden (ald. 1905) 20), dat na zijn vaders dood te Dordrecht in 1595 uit diens bibliotheek verschillende handschriften zijn aangekocht, schreef Bon. Vulcanius nog 14 Febr. 1598 aan Abr. Ortelius (Hessels, Eccl. Lond. Bat. Arch. 1 (Cant. 1887) 743) dat de bibliotheek bij Nantius te Middelburg was, die er geen zorg voor droeg. Zijn vrouw vestigde zich aanvankelijk weder te Leiden, doch kwam met hare dochter Maria met attestatie vandaar weder te Middelburg ten avondmaal op 6 Juni 1610, was daar nog tegenwoordig bij den ondertrouw harer dochter Susanna op 2 Oct. 1621 met Sacharias Bouvaerts en zelfs nog 23 Juni 1626 bij die van haar dochter Elisabeth.
