Oudst, met "zekerheid" bekende voorvader van de familie van Rooij is "Joannis Jansse van Rooij". Hij huwt 25-04-1714 te Sint-Michielsgestel Jenneke Meuwisse Jan Tijssen, dochter van Bartholomeus Johannis Thijsse en Heijlwigis Johannis Compeer. Zijn huwelijksinschrijving vermeld "beijde van Mighielsgestel", echter zijn doop kan in Sint-Michielsgestel niet teruggevonden worden. De doopinschrijving van zijn echtgenote wel, op 09-02-1694 wordt zij ingeschreven in de doopboeken van de r.k. kerk te Sint-Michielsgestel. Uit de stukken uit het "Oud Rechtelijk archief" van Sint-Michielsgestel lijkt het echter aannemelijk dat Jan Paulus van Rooij zijn vader was. Deze was vermoedelijk afkomstig van Sint-Oedenrode.
Joannes Jansz (Jan) van ROIJ (Jan Janse van Rooij, "den Blauwe"), meester decker, geboren ca 1690, overleden vr 07-1756 te Sint-Michielsgestel, vermoedelijk zoon van Jan Paulusse van Roijl.
Ondertrouwd op 10-02-1714 te Sint-Michielsgestel, gehuwd op 25-02-1714 te Sint-Michielsgestel, gehuwd voor de kerk op 25-02-1714 te Sint-Michielsgestel (r.k.) (getuige(n): Dominicus de`? en Johanna van Grevenbroek) met Johanna Bartholomeus Johannis (Jenneke) THIJSSEN (Jenneke Meuws Jan Thijss), 20 jaar oud, gedoopt (RK) op 09-02-1694 te Sint-Michielsgestel, overleden v-07-1748, dochter van Bartholomeus Johannis THIJSSE (Meeuw Jan Tijsse) en Heijlwigis Johannis Nicolai (Heijlke) COMPEER.
