Notes about Johannes Petrus "Jan" Meure

{geni:occupation} Horticulturist
{geni:about_me} Johan was born on Mar 20 1914 - Heemstede, North Holland, Nederlands , he immigrated to Australia with his wife and children to build a better life, After having survived the second world war, and running their own shop , they left to board the Vollumdam sailing away from their motherland, Months later to arrive in Australia, It wasnt long before he started to build his own glass houses and house .

He was a fanatical Horticulturalist, growing a variety of goods , his biggest sellers were his tomatos, and Gerberas, he was first in Australia to introduce the Gerbera Flower, he would often separate the seeds and combine them to make beautiful colors, i know because i would help him in my school holidays, Grandpas tomatos were the best smelling tomatos, when the royal Yacht visit tasmania, the Queen Elisabeth ate from my grandfathers glass houses as they were the best in Tasmania, the Mercury Newspaper took a photo of grandpa and interviewd him.Grand pa grew many things , Lettuce, carnations i remember him getting up in the middle of the night to attend the boiler that kept the glass houses warm through the cold nights of winter here.Grandpas glass houses are no longer standing, the land was sold and the glass houses were torn down to make way for houses, if you drive down the road, you can still see the house he built for his family,

Sundays were always the best , all the family would come home to have dinner, and guests, My Grandpa taught me to tell the time, and to turn the pages of books carefully, he taught me to be patient and to love classical music, he would often tell me the storys behind the people who were singing the operas he loved to listen to ,Although his hands were rough and tired from hard work, he was a very refined man, Often, he picked me up, to take me around all the paintings in the house, and to tell me the storys about them, He came a Long way from Holland as a young man with a family., I dont think, any one could ever have a better grandpa than what i did.
