De Familie Rotering komt uit het Duitse stadje Vreeden (Vreden), Prinsdom Anhalt. in het Utrechts archief is een document waarin staat dat Antonie Rotering toestemming vraagt te mogen trouwen in het prinsdom Anhalt en dat ligt zuid oosterlijk van Halberstad en ten zuiden van Maagdenburg, Maar de stad Vreden ligt ligt de Duitse deelstaat Noordrijn Westfalen, Kreis Borken. maar is in de oudheid gesitcht door een zekere Waltbert een kleinkind Hertog Wudikind de eerste bij naam bekende Hertog van Saksen. Er is hierover meer te lezen bij de notities van Antonius Josephus (Loe)nardus) Rotering. Uit onderzoek ben ik er achter gekomen dat in de stad Vreden in de jaren 1811 en 1857 stadsbranden hebben gewoed waardoor alle oude kerkboeken verloren zijn gegaan hierdoor kan men in de DTB gegevens niet verder terug gaan dan het jaar 1747.


In het jaar 1883 word het gezin geregistreerd te Amsterdam en zijn ze woonachtig aan de Commelinstraat. Het gezin teld dan nog maar 4 kinderen.
