Annoyingly, the Visitation used as the Main Source for most of this page appears to be wrong in the way that it shows how the family's most famous member (Lord Chancellor Thomas) connected to the undermentioned family. BE1883 (Audley of Walden) reports a Lord Braybrooke as having reported that "It seems extraordinary that neither Camden, who lived so much nearer those times, nor Dugdale could with all their industry satisfy themselves as to the birth-place or extraction of Thomas Audley" but goes on to identify the following Geoffrey as his father. This is supported by TCP (Audley of Walden). BE1883 indicates that the family had been at Earls Colne for several generations. TCP notes that Thomas "appears to have had two brothers, both also named Thomas, who inherited the manors of Berechurch and Gosbecks, near Colchester." This appears to confirm that Thomas was of the family covered by the Visitation but, until we see how Geoffrey fitted into that family, we show him separately.
