According to the research and writings of Rev. Francis Campbel Symonds on The Hatcher Family, the name "Hace" is Norman-French and means "a light battle-ax."  The Hatcher Coat of Arms as described in Fairbanks' Book of Crests: ; "Hatcher Lines, an arm Embowed, vested azure, charged with three bars argent, holding in the hand proper, a branch of olives Vert."

Rev. Symonds states that in Careby Manor, Lincolnshire, England stands a tombstone with an inscription dated 1564 that records that the Hatchers buried there were of "the ancient family of Hatchers, for many generations the Lords of this Manor."

William HATCHER was a member of Parliament.   He took up arms against the King and for this, being seized by the Kind's forces was indicted for treason in 1643.  His son, William HATCHER, II was born in Careby, England about 1614.
