September 1712 Joseph Goode upon his petition being admitted to choose a guardian makes choice of John Roberts to be his guardian and the same Roberts appeared and accepted ye charge, and Thomas Turpin and Leonard Ballowe became his securities for ye same (Henrico Co., Virginia Order Book, 1710-1714, pp. 182-3, transcribed by Robert Young Clay).
Joseph was born between 1692 (underage in 1712) and 1698 (boys could choose guardians at age 14). Joseph was one of 4 children identified as underage in John Goode's 1708 will. The other 3 were Susannah, Anne, and Thomas.
Since normally only family or very good friends provided security, then Leonard Ballowe was probably a good friend or family. John Roberts m. Katherine Goode, sister of Joseph. So far, I have not found a family link between Thomas Turpin and the Goode family.
19 October 1764 - Allison Clarke and others to do inventory of Joseph Goode's estate. (Chesterfield, VA Will Book 1, p. 400)
