GEORGE Hardy, (2--3), of Isle of Wight Co., Virginia,b. 1633, in England; d. 1693, in Virginia; he came to the Colony prior to 1654; he inherited the Hardy Mill, and also owned large estates in Isle of Wight and Surry Cos., and an interest in several vessels; was a liberal supporter of the Established Church; he made will March 5, 1693, and the same was probated in 1694; names his sons Richard and Thomas, his daughters Margaret and Sarah, and his grandchildren, Richard and George Jarett (children of his daughter Mary). He m. prior to 1666, Mary Jackson, dau. of Richard Jackson and Mary Bennett, of Isle of Wight Co., Virginia"

In 1644 he patented 300 acres (increased to 500 in 1648), situated upon Lawne's creek and bordering upon Alice Bennett's land (doubtless widow of Robert Bennett, of London), for 6 persons, Thomas Sabin, Thomas Hardy, George Nettleford, James Strong, and John Smith. He had a noted mill, which is still used. From this family of Hardy was descended Hon. Samuel Hardy, a prominent member of the Continental Congress."

1648 George Hardy Patented 500 acres Lawne's Creek established a grist mill, oldest on record IOW. A descendant was Samuel Hardy who was in House of Delegates in 1781 and a member of continental Congress 1783-85.

Sarah Jackson (Elizabeth, Alice Pierce) married Arthur Smith II, who with his wife gave to George Hardy deeds for the land on Blackwater in Isle of Wight Co., 1666, the deeds reciting that Sarah, wife of Arthur Smith II and Mary the wife of George Hardy were daughters of Richard Jackson and granddaughters of Alice Bennett.
