According to Doris Ellen Engle Dunlap Bartish, and Originally authored by Alice Hamot in her book "Trail Blazers" about the Crowley Family of pioneers who crossed a continent from England to Oregon Territory, U.S.A., this man was John Crowley b 1597 d unknown in Harpols, Herts, England.  His son Ambrose Crowley was supposed to have been born in 1622, and married Mary Grainger, Rawley Staffs, England (or Rowley), but there is a problem with the timetable concerning births.

In Le Neve's Pedigrees of the Knights, edited by George W. Marshall, LL.D., published by The Harleian Society, in London, 1873, p. 495.
Crowley, Ambrose esquire the other of the Sheriffs of London Knighted at St James in the Bed chamber on the first day of January 1706/1707. Md. he was an Ironmonger by Trade but free of the drapers company, he had a grant of Arms dated June 1707 by Sir Henry St George Garter and John Vanbrugh Clar.
His son Ambrose Junior, is mentioned as being no gentleman nor any pretence to Arms, a quaker, living 1706.  Ambrose Crowley III esquire only child of Ambrose, elected Sheriff of London from Michaelmas 1706 to Michaelmas 1707 was Knighted as above dealt in Iron lived in Thames Street London and at Greenwich in Kent.

His will was proved October 3 1680 therefore his death was near that date.  They were the parents of 5 sons and 4 daughters.

Residence - Sourbridge,Worcestershire, England.  Ambrose was a Quaker. #1 married Rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England Par Reg. 1:148, #1 burial 21 Feb 1685 Rowley Regis Parish Register 2:218.  #2 Chr.  16 aug 1635, married (2) Sarah, dau. of Samuel and Judith Morris, burial 3 feb 1721. #3 Married at Rowley Regis, Stafforshire, England.  Parish Register 1:149.  #4 chr. 21 aug 1639, rowley Regis, Staffordshire, England.  Par. Reg 1:70 burial 3 Dec 1655, Rowley Regis, etc. Par. Reg. 1:154
