Sohn des Grafen Egino II. im Schwiggerthal
Egino III. erbaute die Burg Urach, nach der er sich nannte. Er ist quellenmäßig auch wenig greifbar, verhielt sich wie sein bischöflicher Bruder Gebhard von Straßburg und wurde eine wichtige STAUFER-Stütze und deren Vasall. Er nahm an schwäbischen Landtagen teil, begünstigte das Kloster Zwiefalten, eine Stiftung der Verwandten in Achalm und erschien zuletzt in einer Fehde mit dem Kloster Reichenbach.
