The Savoy Palace in London was built in 1245 for Peter, Earl of Savoy and Richmond. It later became the palace of John of Gaunt Duke of Lancaster, and his heirs. (later site of the Savoy Theater of Gilbert & Sullivan fame ca. 1870's.)
