Lamoral comte puis prince de Ligne, seigneur de Beloeil, nommé chevalier de l'ordre de la. Toison d'Or en 1589, créé prince du St Empire 18 20 mars 1601, capitaine et gouverneur de l'Artois en 1610. mort à Bruxelles le 5 janvier 1624,

Maria van Wassenaar, burggravin van Leiden, enz., als ze sterft volgt haar zoon Philips haar in 1544 op. Deze benoemt zijn oudste zoon Lamoraal tot opvolger.
In deze tijd van de 80-jarige oorlog kwamen in 1609 al zijn goederen aan de staat. Toen Lamoraal in 1615 alles terug kreeg, verkocht hij al zijn bezittingen in Holland (nl. alles wat zijn voorvader Jan van Wassenaar bezat). Ook Oost-Barendrecht wordt verkocht en wel voor f30.500 aan Arent Maertensz, één van de rijkste burgers van Dordrecht. Als deze het overdraagt aan zijn erfdochter, Alida van Barendrecht, zijn we in het jaar 1636 beland.

Claude Lamoral de Ligne d'Amblise (welke??) :

Het burggraafschap (van Leiden) vererfde in de 16de eeuw op Jacob, graaf van Ligne. Een van zijn nakomelingen, Claude Lamoral, prins van Ligne (laatste burggraaf), viel tijdens de slag bij Lens in handen van zijn vijanden.
Zijn familie moest een hoog losgeld betalen en om aan de benodigde financiën te komen, verkocht men de Burcht, het burggraafschap, het recht van gruit (ingrediënt voor bier) en van de markttol voor f 70000 aan de stad Leiden.
