Mary Olson Rites Held

Funeral services were held for Mary E. Olson on Thursday, June 10, 1982 at 10:30 am from the Memorial United Methodist Church of Lyons. Pastor L. Robert Holbrook officiated at the rites.  Ruby Case was the organist.  She accompanied a male quartette in special selections. Members of the group were Doug Friedle, Milford Murphy, Art Salhstrom and Paster L. Robert Holdbrook.

Interment was in the Lyons Cemetery with Piper Funeral home in charge of the arrangements.  Casket Bearers were Dale Raymond and Donny Olson, Johnny Clausen, Vernon Koehler, John Alexander and Gerald Newill.

Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Gallup Olson daughter of George and Clara Gallup was born October 23, 1910 at the Gallup farm southeast of Lyons.  She died June 7, 1982 at the Oakland Hospital after suffering a heart attack at her home early in the morning that same day.

She grew up in the Viles area where she attended school in her early years, and graduated from Lyons High School with honors in 1928.  She attended Wayne Sate College, and taught in rural school in the area from 1929 to 1934.  Mary was married to Elmer S. Olson of Wausa, NE. on March 2, 1934 at the home of her father on the East side of Lyons. They made their home on their farm near Lyons where they lived all of their married life.

They were the parents of three sons, Dale E., Norman L., and Lyle D. Olson.  Elmer died in 1966.  Mary remained on the family farm northwest of Lyons until 1979 when she moved into Lyons to take up residence at 600 Diamond Street, where she resided until her death.

Mary was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church and was active in many departments and committees of the church throughout her life.  She taught in the Sunday School for several years, chaired various committees, was an officer in the U.M.W. and had received her Life Membership Pin in 1965.  She also had received her 50 year membership pin from the church that she joined in 1920.

Mary was a long time member of the West Side Aid and the Birthday Club.  She was also a former member of the Rebecca Lodge.

Those who survive her include three sons, Dale and his wife Harvetta of Bancroft, Norman at home, and Lyle of the U. S. Army and his wife Kum Ok. presently stationed at Fr. Carson, Colorado Springs, Co., 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 1 sister Mrs. Francis (Myrtle) Johnson of Oakland and a brother Vernon Gallup of Lyons, many other relatives and a wide circle of friends.
