"Jacob Demarest Van Emburgh founded J.D. Van Emburg Mortuary in 1894, across the street west of its present location on South Maple Street in Ridgewood, New Jersey.  The first floor housed the mortuary and doubled as a livery stable, where some 30 horses were kept.  He moved the business up the street  in 1904 before relocating to its present location in 1917.  The business was renamed after his death in 1929 to C.C.
