"Elias was born in Sussex County, New Jersey, August 8, 1787.  In 1805 he removed with his father's family to Western New York.  He was married in Cayuga (now Tompkins) County, New York, on the 25th of November, 1809, to Hannah, sister to Sarah, Andrew Van Sickle's wife, and daughter of Solomon Courtright of Sussex County, New Jersey, by whom he had fifteen children....
"In the autumn of 1817 he removed to Southern Ohio, and settled in Gallia County.  In 1828 he removed to Central Ohio, and settled in Delaware County (Porter Township).  About the year 1853, he removed to Huron County, Ohio.  Though a farmer, he also carried on the business of blacksmithing.  He died in Delaware County, Ohio, on the 12th of April 1861, in the 74th year of his age. ; His children's richest inheritance was their father's good name.  His wife, Hannah, was born in the State of New Jersey on the 17th of April, 1791, and is now (1880) living."
