    Martin moved to Wikesbarre at 17 years of age. He learned the trade of marblecutter. He enlisted on April 22, 1861, for 3 months in Company C, 16th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. He reenlisted October 24, 1861in Company H, 67th Regiment and was discharged July 14, 1865. He moved to Shickshinny, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania around 1867. Due to poor health in 1878, Martin moved to Iuka, Pratt County, Kansas where, in the following spring, he died of consumption.
