    Killed in Accident - Burial Here
    Funeral services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church for Mrs. Jake Affeldt, 37, and her son, David 10, who were killed in an automobile accident Saturday evening near their home at Lodi, California. The Rev. Walter Schroeder will conduct the service.
    The accident happened when their car, driven by Mr. Affeldt, was struck by another. Mrs. Affeldt was killed instantly but her son lived for a few hours. Mr. Affeldt suffered rib fractures and arm injuries, the extent of which is not as yet fully known but he is still in the Lodi Hospital, said to be in serious condition.
    The bodies of Mrs. Affeldt and David were brought to the Loper Funeral Home where they will remain until the funeral. Mrs. Affeldt was born in Riceville in 1913 to Mr. and Mrs. William Herdman. In August 1938, she was married and the couple established its home in California. They operated a dairy farm near Lodi.
    Survivors include her husband; her parents here in Riceville; brothers, William, Independence, Robert, Vinton and a sister, Mrs. Robert Boswell, San Francisco. t the time this is written, Tuesday, William Herdman is critically ill, suffering with virus pneumonia, at the hospital at Independence.
