Harry E. Montanye, Chemical engineer, Army veteran
Harry E. Montanye, 79, of Fredericksburg, a chemical engineer who formerly sang in the choir at the Church of Our Saviour, Oatlands, died at home July 26 after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 27, 1927, to the late Elmer and Levina Montanye. He was a U.S. Army sergeant from 1945 to 1946, serving as one of the guards stationed at Los Alamos, N.M., during development of the atomic bomb. He graduated from Drexel University and earned an MBA from Rutgers University. Mr. Montanye retired as director of logistics for BASF in Clifton, N.J.
A tenor, he sang in many churches in addition to Church of Our Saviour.
Survivors include his wife, Elma Kauffman Montanye of Fredericksburg; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Montanye of Spotsylvania, and Margaret I. Tilley of Berlin, Md.; a son, David E. Montanye of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Ronald A. Montanye of Chalfont, Pa.; and six grandchildren.
Burial is planned for a later date in Pennsylvania.
