Rachel Smith?s will also disposes of the notion that there were any descendants of her brother Joseph and his wife Margrietje Roll. Neither Joseph, born 1684, nor any children of Joseph are mentioned in that will.  Riker makes it sound as if Joseph Montanye and Margrietje Roll had a son Joseph baptized in New York City in 1732.  Such is not the case.  The only mention of Margrietje Roll in the NYRDC records after 1728 is a marriage of a different Margrietje Roll to Johannes Waldron on 13 April 1729 . ; In an extensive footnote  to her recent article on the Roll family, Barbara Barth notes the difficulty of identifying three different Margrietje Rolls but concludes that the one who married Joseph Montanye in 1728 must have been the daughter of Mangel Jansen Roll and that she must have died soon after the birth of her presumed son Joseph (citing Riker) since she is not mentioned in Mangel Jansen Roll?s will, written 16 August 1732 .   Mrs. Barth fails to mention that neither Joseph Montanye nor his presumed son Joseph Jr. is mentioned in that will either.
