Heirat zu Tervueren am 01.07.1347 mit Maria von Brabant (*um 1325, †01.03.1399 Brüssel, begraben im Minoritenkloster zu Brüssel), Frau von Turnhout, Tochter von Herzog Johann III. von Brabant (1300-05.12.1355) und der Maria von Evreux (†31.10.1335). Rainalds Schwägerin Johanna von Brabant (1322-1406) heiratete 1354 Wenzel von Böhmen (1337-1383), Herzog von Luxemburg, Brabant und Limburg, Halbbruder Kaiser Karls IV. (1346-1378).

Reijnald III, hertog van Gelderland, graaf van Zutphen, geboren 13 mei 1332, kwam aan de regering in 1344, onder voogdij van zijn moeder. Hij trouwde met Maria van Brabant. Na een broedertwist (de Bronkhorsten en de Huikerens/Hekerens)),waarbij Eduard winnaar werd winnaar met steun van zijn moeder, werd Reijnald gevangen gezet in kasteel Nijenbeek te Voorst. (in 1383 kreeg Wiilem van Steenbergen (569056/254528) het kasteel in leen van de hertog van Gelre) Tijdens zijn gevangenschap kreeg hij een buitenechtelijk kind: Jan van Hattem. (Gelderse geschiedenissen, A. van Slichtenhorst, pag. 168) ).
