Dirk IV van Assendelft 1498/9 - 1553, heer van Besoyen, Albrandswaard en Heinenoord, Schout van Breda, echtgenoot van Adriana van Nassau. (fragment van het gedenkteken in de Groote of O.L.V. Kerk te Breda. De baard is deels afgehakt. Op het originele beeld is dat duidelijk te constateren. (Foto Th. van Groesen, Breda).

Besoyen Bij herhaling werd Dirk (IV) van Assendelft (1498/9-1553) aangeduid als 'heer van Besoyen'. De ambachtsheerlijkheid had vanouds aan edelen toebehoord (sedert 1392: met 21 morgen land in leen gehouden door de heer van de Lek). Op 1 juli 1447 droeg Willen van Besoyen haar aan de graaf van Holland op, ten behoeve van zijn kleindochter Beatrix van Dongen (sterft in 1492), echtgenote van Gerrit (IV) van Assendelft (sterft in 1486). Besoyen bleef twee eeuwen in het bezit van de Van Asendelfts. In de 'Chronycke'van Van Gouthoeven wordt in 1620 medegedeeld dat het slot toen reeds 'over lange jaren' vervallen lag. Dit beduidt dat Abraham Rademaker (geb. 1675) vermoedelijk naar een ouder voorbeeld heeft getekend, wat hij vaker deed
