Heer van Welvelde (1555).
Uit het huwelijk met Judith zijn 8 kinderen geboren.
De zoons Caspar en Christoffel deelden de ouderlijke bezittingen. Caspar kreeg de Schelenburg en Christoffel Weleveld. Hij en zijn broer hadden in Wittenberg gestudeerd en namen daar de Nieuwe Leer van Maarten Luther aan. Als gevolg daarvan werden in Borne priesters aangesteld van de Lutherse leer. Dit brengt Christoffel in conflict met Den Haag waar men vanuit de calvinistische levensovertuiging de Luthersen niet streng genoeg vindt.
Hoewel Christoffel probeerde neutraal te blijven werd hij gerekend een vijand te zijn van de Spaanse koning. De 80 jarige oorlog had trieste gevolgen voor de havezate. Het huis werd beurtelings door Spaanse en Staatse troepen bezet en zwaar gehavend. Daarbij ging het huisarchief verloren. Christoffel en zijn familie weken langdurig uit naar Osnabruck. Na hun terugkeer in 1596 werd het inmiddels alweer ingestorte huis herbouwd en verfraaid.
