Notes about Philip De Draycote Of Paynsley & Leigh, Sir

The following is copied from "The History of the Draycott Family" website at http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Agora/3542/draycott.html:

Thus the lineage continued to PHILIP DE DRAYCOTE (VI), Richard’s son and heir. He was obviously also a man of standing, appearing first on the list of Knights on a jury of the Hundred of Totmonslow. Legal actions by his wife after his death show that he held estates in Butterdon, Kingsley, Leigh, Werslow (Orslow), and Whiston in Staffordshire as well as Draycott and Calton in Derbyshire. He married a lady named Alice whose maiden name is uncertain. She is referred to as Alice Touchet after Philip’s death which suggests that she either resumed her maiden name or remarried very quickly. In the sordid meetings of these feudal grandees, a woman’s feelings played little part, but a well-dowered widow could buy her liberty and take her choice. Philip had the following sons; Richard, Philip, Roger and William. Philip died before the middle of July, 1294.
